Gas guzzlers and going green.

You know, I’ve heard complaints about how if people want to save money on gas, maybe they shouldn’t be driving gas guzzling SUVs or whatever. There is some truth to that. Another good point is that if they didn’t have the gas prices jacked way up, people wouldn’t be stealing it so damned much! People steal what they want and can’t afford.

I could go round and round about rich people filling their boats and jet-skis with gasoline as well as you land dwellers and your ATVs and how much of a waste that is in our society right now that is desperate to reduce the price of gasoline. It must be nice to piss away money.

I myself drive an SUV (technically an LUV – Luxury Utility Vehicle). I am one of the drivers on the road who is shunned for having a “gas guzzler.” Really, it isn’t. It averages decent mileage on the interstate and not-so-horrible mileage in the city.

Since I’ve been making efforts to go green, I have done some researching on how to improve the quality of living in my home and for my planet by using green products and buying organic items when I can afford them.

Last week I read that when you drive 70mph, you use 20% more gas than if you had driven 55mph.

I decided to test that.

When I went to my awesome BFF’s house on Tuesday (yeah, I went there Rhiannon!), I decided to slow it down. I drove not more than 65 the whole way there and for the most part, I drove 55mph. I have a screen with all kinds of goodies in my car, one being a gas reader thingy. It tells you how many miles you are averaging per gallon. It usually reads 19.9 or around there. When I slowed it down, it went to 23.7!!! That’s 4 additional miles per gallon that I’m keeping in my tank. That’s 60 miles per tank!

I don’t know about you guys, but that’s worth slowing down!!!

Be aware at the pump!!

Nope, we’re not talking about boobs and breast pumps. I’m talking about gas pumps.

The gas pumps that we wish to curse everyday as we sink more and more of our hard earned (pitifully paid) money into them. The pumps that are causing me to go on a hunger strike because I have to cut back on groceries to afford a drive across town.

The same pumps that – if you didn’t already know – are screwing us over. That’s right, next time you go to the pump, pay attention people!! You may be doing more than bending over to insert the nozzle into your car. You may be taking it up the ass!

People are finding out that when they begin to pump, before any gas even comes out, they are automatically being charged an extra amount…usually in the vicinity of 20 cents!!! Of cuorse, the stations refuse to refund you money, so what else can you do???

Find another gas station to use. And use a minor oil seller, not BP and Exxon. If we all stopped using the major oil contributors, they may be forced to lower the price of gasoline. (because we won’t all do that gas strike for a day thing)
