Design Stuff!

As you guys know, I decided to get back into web design. I used to design years ago for fun: mostly it was informatiove websites on celebrities like Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie, rock stars like Courtney Love….you get it.

I got started when I was in college – about 1998 or so – when they built us a new kick-ass library equipped with about 50 or more computers all linked up to the newness of the WWW. It wasn’t used a lot back then, but I am always up for trying new things….especially technology!

I also lived with my abusive ex at the time so anything to avoid going home was taken advantage of. So I stayed many hours after classes to use the computers. Somehow I found free website hosting through geocities. Do any of you remember when they had neighborhoods like Sunset Strip (which was for the music scene) and Pit was the area and then your address, like this: geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pit/4014 – which was actually one of my addresses…the one for Courtney Love. :) Well, that’s how I got started.

And I designed sites for years using simple HTML. I recently decided to get back into it because I think it is SO FUN!!! Call me crazy, but making a webpage for all to see is just so amazing! Putting a design into action from code is just one of the neatest things. I always like to approach things from every angle, but I love a challenge, so I usually come at it from the most difficult angle. Instead of using site builders, I like to write it all out myself. No copying and pasting, no stealing templates and changing them up, none of that. I sit down and write out every last word from my website starting from the world wide web consortium code at the top to the footer at the bottom.

I also like creating banners and other graphics, too.

Because I enjoy it so much, I decided to give it a go. The only thing is is they have created something new since the last time I wrote code and that’s CSS. When I first looked at this several months ago, it confused me. So I bought a book! Integrated HTML and CSS by Virginia DeBolt has been so helpful!! I thank her for teaching me what will help me become an awesome and successful designer.

With all of that, I have started a new business.

I have not launched a website yet as I am looking into purchasing hosting. I will keep you posted!

I am currently designing the website for Stella Zotis from the latest season of Project Runway! How exciting!

Big Lots and Books

Yesterday I took out a loan to pay off Toyota at 50% of what I really owed. They wanted to loan me an 00 amount so I rounded it up. This gave us an extra $90 almost.

I went to get my book I had ordered from BAM, but they didn’t have it anywhere. So I perused the computers section for something else and found an awesome photography book specifically focusing on weddings.

I flipped through it and really liked the information in it. I think I’ll be able to use it to help me tweak up my work insome areas as far as settings on my camera. I’ve been studying a lot lately on the settings and the different, fun things I can do. Last week at McKays, I picked up a book called Understanding Exposure that has some great info in it as well.

I really can’t wait to read through them some more. I’m glad that I got them instead of the web design book I had ordered, even though I still really want it.

I went online to BigLots.com and discovered that the Jennifer Farrell Collection is on sale at 25% off!! I am stoked because the grass type vase I want for my bedroom is part of that collection so that means it is now only $30!!! I don’t know if I have that now or not.

We’ll see!

Pagan books for sale!!

I am selling 9 books on Paganism. I’ll sell them all for $30 or individually for $5. Shipping will be $5 as well, or if your local you can come pick them up.

Here they are:

The bitch had it coming

As you know on Friday I rearranged my living room. In doing so, I discovered another book on my shelf that I have yet to read: Bitter Is The New Black: Or Why You Should Never Carry Your Prada Bag To The Unemployment Office.

So far, it’s quite interesting. The author is Jen Lancaster and apparently she was discovered in the “blogosphere.” I am going to search for her blog!!

I do believe her blog is at jennsylvania.com

mmm….cupcakes

When I was at the bookstore today, I saw this book as I was checking out:

There were some very yummy looking cupcakes in there, with recipes!!!!

Jess, you want to meet up one day and check it out with me?? :)

The Heroin Diaries

I wound up buying The Heroin Diaries today (about Nikki Sixx’s addiction and life as a member of Motley Crue).

Warning: It’s $32.50!!!!

All I have to do now is start reading…..

Kimora Lee Simmons and some other stuff…

You know, all I’ve ever seen of KLS is in commercials. I know some things about her from watching a show on E (I think) about rap stars wives, and it talked every bit about her and her success. I can respect her for her success, but I must say that I can not stand her voice.

She sounds like trash to me. She seems arrogant and pompous and self-centered. I don’t know if she thinks the world revolves around her because of who she is, but she is nobody. And the way she talks on her show makes her sound like….TRASH!! I immediately think of a mouthy skank ho whenever I hear her.

That’s just my opinion.

My tattoo for Aidan is looking really good. I have it colored on paper, I just have to decide exactly how I’m going to have the wings colored. I’m going to draw them separately and color them in differently. I’ll let you know when it’s done.

I have to go to work tomorrow. Blugh. The week went by slowly until Wendesday went by, then it was all of a sudden…now.

The weather here is freaking nuts. It was mid 80s at the beginning of the week and then on Wednesday it dropped dramatically. The high yesterday was 69 and today it’s 72. It got down in the 40s overnight. I woke up freezing my ass off. I guess this year there will be no relief as far as the utilities bill. It will be straight from AC to heat…no in between.

I went to get The Heroin Diaries today and they still didn’t have it out. So I ventured over to T.J. Maxx to see if they still had the purse I wanted for my birthday and it was gone. :( I did find 2 other cute ones: one was a black Guess and the other was yellow PVC. I didn’t buy either. Instead, I went over to the kids section and spoiled my son!

I bought Aidan a shopping buggy cover thing that also functions as a playmat. I figured since flu season is approaching, I better get one to help protect him from cooties. I also bought a carry along Clorox Anywhere spray for the same purpose. Then we found a little blue whale that plays music and vibrates forward across the floor. So cute!! He wouldn’t let go of it, so I knew he liked it.

So, it’s now 7:40pm and time to cook dinner late…again.

The Heroin Diaries

Sounds like a must have!!!!

Girl kills herself over Harry Potter???

Apparently a teenage girl downloaded a fake version of the newest book and was upset by the ending so she hung herself in her closet.

I read this on Martin Aquino’s blog….the blog of the minute when I signed on.

How stupid. And sad.

A Jill of All Trades

31 year old mother of Aidan, born January 27, 2007. Wife to a music man and tattoo artist on the side. I blog about everything under the sun and don't care if I offend anyone. Hopefully I can put a few stitches in your side.
I love music, fashion, tattoos and web design. Without those things, I'd feel lost. I always want more, more, more...like Billy Idol says. More fashion, more music, more tattoos.

AND....I am not the same person who owns jillofalltrades.com nor am I affiliated with her. My web design business is known as The Design Parlor.
